My time in Nicaragua is drawing to a close, and I will soon be leaving for Columbia. Nicaragua has been so sweet to me, and I’ve met some wonderful people. I had the opportunity to get my hands dirty, quite literally, working manual labor most days. We are serving at a boy’s school providing education to end cyclical poverty here in Nicaragua. God has shown me throughout my time on The Race that humor brings people together. No matter background, culture, or language, everyone loves a good laugh. Luckily for me, I have a BIG sense of humor. I am the interminable jokester. During my free time, I have been having some good- humored fun by playing pranks on the kitchen staff. Specifically, a lady named Dina. Dina does not speak English. One day, we were working preparing meals and I threw a bean at her. She thought that was so funny. Every day the games continue. She pokes me in the side and calls me “boy”. Do not worry; she gives it back to me just as hard! Although we are from different parts of the world, don’t speak the same language, and are different ages from very different backgrounds God forged a friendship between us built on humor. One day she invited me to her home, to meet her family. I don’t know if that would have been possible if we hadn’t had that common bond of laughter. It’s incredible to me that God can build relationships through anything especially if you open your heart. Scroll down below to see pics!
